Attachment: Attachment theory originated in the work of John Bowlby. In infants it is primarily a process of proximity seeking to an identified attachment figure in situations of perceived distress or alarm. Infants become attached to adults who are sensitive and responsive in social interactions with the infant, and who remain as consistent caregivers for some months during the period from about 6 months to two years of age. The human infant is considered to have a need for a secure relationship with adult caregivers, without which normal social and emotional development will not occur. Parental responses lead to the development of patterns of attachment which in turn lead to 'internal working models' which will guide the individual's feelings, thoughts, and expectations in later relationships. Attachment behaviors include peer relationships of all ages, romantic and sexual attraction.  Attachment predicts our success in all human interactions including business, family, or romantic relationships.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a psychotherapy based on assumptions and beliefs, the patient has that negatively effect their behaviors, and creates disturbed emotions. CBT is widely researched and proven to work on mood disorders [depression/bipolar] and anxiety disorders.  It is a brief form of therapy that many people receive swift results when employed.  The particular therapeutic techniques vary according to the particular kind of client or issue, but commonly include keeping a diary of significant events and associated feelings, thoughts and behaviors; questioning and testing cognitions, assumptions, evaluations and beliefs that might be unhelpful and unrealistic; gradually facing activities which may have been avoided; and trying out new ways of behaving and reacting. Relaxation and distraction techniques are also commonly included.

The objectives of CBT typically are to identify irrational or maladaptive thoughts, assumptions and beliefs that are related to debilitating negative emotions and to identify how they are dysfunctional, inaccurate, or simply not helpful. This is done in an effort to reject the distorted cognitions and to replace them with more realistic and self-helping alternatives.

Play Therapy: Play therapy provides away for children ages 3 -12 years old to express their experiences and feelings through a natural, self-guided, self-healing process. As children’s experiences and knowledges are often communicated through play, it becomes an important vehicle for them to know and accept themselves and others.  It is based upon research that children’s dysfunctional patterns will be reflected in their play.  Trained play therapists use the therapeutic powers of play to help clients prevent or resolve psychosocial difficulties and return the child to their normal developmental trajectory and to engender optimal integration and individuation.
